Community Youth Programs has been providing shelter and support to older teens in Halton for over 40 years.

We provide a safe and structured home for the kids. Our clients are expected to behave constructively and have part time jobs. We teach life skills and target good performance in school with the goal of successful graduation from high school. Our outcomes demonstrate that academic performance improves significantly with the support and structure we provide.

We have found that success in school is a powerful element in building self-esteem. Improved self-esteem leads to a feeling of confidence which then encourages kids to plan for their future. Kids develop goals beyond today or next week. They begin to think about college, university and post-secondary training – 50% of our graduates pursue post-secondary education!!!

An investment in these kids pays dividends for a lifetime.

The expense of pursuing post-secondary education can be overwhelming and many of our clients receive little or no family support. Although they make tremendous strides in school while at C.Y.P. they are often unable to compete for academic scholarships and bursaries due to deficits in their early schooling.

The C.Y.P. Education Fund offers encouragement and tangible support in the form of small grants to help former residents of the group home who are pursuing college, university or post-secondary training programs. The Fund is maintained by donations from our community and is administered by the Board of Directors. All funds donated to this program are used dollar for dollar to help graduates whose families are unable to provide the necessary support for ongoing education.
Please consider choosing Community Youth Programs when you think about charitable donations.

Make a Donation

A charitable donation to Community Youth Programs is an investment in the kids who need our services. Your donation will help them become contributing members of the community.

We are a registered charity and non-profit corporation. Whether you are a business or individual, you can make a donation to the Community Youth Programs.

All donations are used solely to benefit the kids or the ongoing operation of the home. Donations may be designated to the Damian Neary Fund which is used to help former residents of the group home working towards high school graduation;the Education and Development Fund which helps former residents who are pursuing post secondary education or training; or the Healthy Living Fund which provides help with urgent medical, dental and nutritional needs of clients living independently.

Cash Donations

Cheques should be made payable to Community Youth Programs. A receipt for income tax purposes is issued for all monetary donations.

Making a Gift of Securities

The May 2, 2006 Federal Budget made it more attractive to make donations to charities. Donations of publicly listed securities to a registered charity are exempted from all capital gains taxation. By donating publicly traded shares to Community Youth Programs, you will not pay capital gains tax normally associated with such a disposition. This means that you receive a tax receipt for the full value of the shares but are NOT taxed on any gain. Donors of securities therefore do not need to take any capital gain into income.

Your charitable receipt will reflect the closing price of the shares on the date they are received in Community Youth Programs’ brokerage account. Eligible securities include shares, bonds, bills, warrants, futures, units in mutual trust funds and shares acquired through employee stock options listed on a Canadian stock exchange or on most foreign exchanges, such as New York, London, Tokyo and Nasdaq.

Complete the attached form and contact us for more information.

Note: Actual shares must be transferred to Community Youth Programs. If shares are sold and the proceeds are donated to C.Y.P., the enhanced tax benefits do not apply.
